Gynecomastia

Surgery

Male Breast Reduction or Gynecomastia Surgery is one of the most popular procedures requested by men. Male breast tissue can develop as a firm lump behind the nipple due to medications, hormone imbalance, weight gain, substance use, health conditions, and even alcohol. The overlying nipple and areola can enlarge and stretch overtime. These changes can be visually bothersome as well as painful. Dr. Lee will evaluate the extent of your gynecomastia and discuss a plan with you to remove the breast tissue and improve the muscular contours of your chest while minimizing incisions.

Incisions are dependent on the amount of breast tissue and skin which need to be removed. Simple cases of gynecomastia may be treated with liposuction only. More complex cases may require an incision hidden around the edge of the nipple areola complex. Severe cases with significant excess skin and tissue may require an incisional extension onto skin near the axilla (armpit). Areola reduction can be performed using the same incisions

Anesthesia is sedation or general and patients can go home the same day.

Recovery is variable but most patients can expect routine activity by 2 weeks and full strenuous activity by 4 weeks. A binder or compression garment may be worn during this time to reduce swelling.

Results continue to improve over several weeks and are long-lasting.
