Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammoplasty, helps lift, resize, and reshape large breasts into a better proportion for the body. Overly large breasts can cause neck , shoulder, and back pain as well as interfere with daily activities such as sports, exercise, and wearing certain types of clothing.
Incisions are typically designed around the nipple and areola with a vertical extension down towards the breast crease. For larger breasts, an additional incision can sometimes be hidden along the breast crease. In most cases, the blood supply to the nipple and sensation remain attached.
Anesthesia is general anesthesia and most patients can go home the same day.
Recovery depends on the extent of your breast reduction but you can expect to gradually increase your activity to normal levels within 2 weeks and more strenuous activities by 4 weeks.
Results are immediate and long-lasting.
